The young guns lead Red Sox to win over Yankees

August 14, 2017

Things didn’t look good for the Boston Red Sox in the ninth inning on Sunday night at the Bronx.

Things changed when 20-year old Rafael Devers smashed a home run off a 102.8 MPH Aroldis Chapman fastball.

The Devers home run evened the score at two. The Red Sox earned a 3-2 win over the Yankees, after 22-year old Andrew Benintendi hit a run scoring single in the 10th inning.

Chris Sale didn’t get a decision despite seven brilliant innings. Sale earned one run on four hits and one walk, while striking out 12. It is the 16th time this season that Sale has struck out at least 10.

Craig Kimbrel (4-0) retired the final out of the ninth inning and the side in the 10th inning. The Red Sox took the series and now have a 5.5 game lead in the American League East.
