PCHS and Penquis open up boys soccer season: Eastern Maine Sports broadcasting to have live coverage on Saturday afternoon

September 1, 2017

The Piscataquis Community High School Pirates (PCHS) will host Penquis in a mutual class C opener on Saturday afternoon.

Bryce Gilbert leads the Pirates attack. Dillion Drew and Cam Kane are expected to provide scoring punch. Damyan True is one of the strongest defenders in class C.

“Dillion Drew and Cam Kane up front both are great scorers. Bryce Gilbert in the middle can control the whole game on his own,”PCHS coach Trey Gilbert said. “Damyan Truę on defense he is a big strong kid and has a very good foot.”

Penquis will come into the game with 10 available players. They will be short handed for the first four games.

“We have low numbers this year with only 15 players. The first four games of the year we have foue players out due to being ineligible from 4th quarter grades. Also will be missing another player the first game against PCHS so will be playing the game with only 10 players. We are hoping to survive the first foue games of the year and get everyone back eligible. With everyone eligible we are hoping to compete with every team we play and get better overall as a team,”Penquis coach Jason Mills said. “Playing short handed against a very talented and experienced PCHS team is going to be a tall order for us on Saturday. They are very good team led by Bryce Gilbert, Dillon Drew, and Damion True. They have good experience with the veterans they have and also have a very strong freshman group led by Kobe Gilbert. They pass the ball very well and have good team speed. We need to find a way to hang around with them. We can not let them get off to a quick start against us on Saturday.”

The Patriots will have to use Jeremy Martin and Camron Bailey on the defensive end until they get a full squad back.

“When we have everyone eligible they (Martin and Bailey) will be our key guys offensively.,”Mills said. “Unfortunately they will both be playing defense for us on Saturday as our ineligible players are defenders.”
Eastern Maine Sports will have live audio coverage starting at 12:55 on Saturday afernoon.
