Two former University of Maine football players are having success at the NFL level.
With teams having to reduce their roster this past weekend to 53 men, the Baltimore Ravens announced they have put former University of Maine defensive lineman Pat Ricard on that active roster, and Ricard will be with the team when they open their regular season against the Cincinnati Bengals September 10.
The New England Patriots also announced that they have put former UMaine linebacker Trevor Bates on their 10 man practice squad.
Ricard, who appeared in 44 games at Maine, made 208 career tackles while with the Black Bears. He was an undrafted free agent signee of the Ravens in April of this year.
Bates, who spent time with the Indianapolis Colts practice squad before landing on the Patriots practice squad last season, played in 46 games at Maine making 207 tackles. Bates was a seventh round selection of the Colts in 2016. He won a Super Bowl ring last season as a member of the Patriots.
