The University of Maine football team will open up their home schedule on Saturday at 3:30 p.m. when they welcome in Bryant at Alfond Stadium.
Maine (0-1), is coming off a tough defeat on August 31 in their season opener by a score of 24-23 to the rival New Hampshire Wildcats.
Maine will try to get their kicking game back in order after freshman kicker Kenny Doak had one blocked, missed a FG attempt, and missed an extra point that would of tied the game in the fourth quarter at Durham.
The Black Bears saw plenty of positives in their opener. Freshman quarterback Chris Ferguson threw for 239 yards and three touchdowns, despite two fourth quarter interceptions. Wideout Jaleel Reed caught a pair of touchdowns, while sophomore running back Josh Mack ran for 103 yards on 27 carries. The defense was also led by a freshman as linebacker Jaron Grayer had nine tackles and a sack.
Bryant comes in at 1-0, coming off a wild 49-41 home win last Saturday over Merrimack where the teams combined for 42 points in the fourth quarter. Quarterback Price Wilson threw for 378 yards and four touchdowns, while wideout Matt Sewall had 146 yards on nine catches with a pair of scores.
In last years matchup at Orono, Maine rallied from 21 points down in the second quarter to trip up Bryant 35-31, on the strength of three touchdown runs in the second half by Mack.
