The Boston Red Sox hitters pounded out 21 hits, while the Red Sox pitchers struck out 23 Rays in a 13-6 win in 15 innings at Tropiciana Field on Friday night.
The Red Sox rallied to overcome a three run deficit in the ninth inning capped by a run scoring single from Xander Bogaerts to even the score at five.
The game remained tied until the 14th inning. Rafael Devers singled home Mookie Betts to give the Red Sox a 6-5 lead. Kevin Kiermaier homered to lead off the bottom of the 14th and send it to the 15th. The Red Sox secured the win with seven in the 15th inning.
Bogaerts sparked the offense with four hits. Betts and Mitch Moreland had three hits each. Moreland hit a home tun in the fourth inning. Deven Marrero came off the bench to get two hits, including a two run double in the 15th inning.
Chris Sale started and allowed four runs in 5.2 innings. Kiermaier made two outstanding catches for the Rays, including one in the ninth inning.
The Red Sox are three games ahead in the American Leagie East with 16 games to play.
