Despite two turnovers by quarterback Tom Brady, the defense did just enough to lead the New England Patriots past the Tampa Bay Buccaneers 19-14 on Thursday night football at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa Bay, Florida.
Chris Hogan caught a touchdown pass, and Steven Gostkowski was 4/4 on field goals hitting from 23, 27, 45, and 48 yards to lead New England (3-2) to the win. Brady finished 29-38, 298 yards, one touchdown, one interception, and a lost fumble. Danny Amendola had 77 yards on eight catches, and Dion Lewis had 53 yards rushing. New England played without Rob Gronkowski who had a sore knee. Devin McCourty led the defense with 11 tackles.
Jameis Winston threw for 273 yards and a touchdown for Tampa, while Doug Martin rushed for 74 yards and a score. Kicker Nick Folk missed three field goals attempts for the 2-2 Buccaneers.
New England is back in action on Sunday, October 15th when they travel to MetLife Stadium to meet their AFC East rival the New York Jets at 1 p.m.
