The Husson Eagles bounced back after their first loss of the season vs Western New England last week, by defeating previously unbeaten SUNY Maritime 35-17 in an Eastern Collegiate Football Conference game Saturday afternoon at the Winkin Sports Complex in Bangor.
Husson (4-1, 2-0 ECFC) won their 11th straight straight game at home and picked up their ninth straight conference victory. John Smith led the offense with 217 yards rushing on 30 carries and a touchdown. Cory Brandon passed for 234 yards and three touchdowns. Luke Washburn led the Eagles defense with 11 tackles and a sack. Antonio Rocha had nine tackles and an interception. Quan Soyini and De’Wayne Smith also both had an interception. Soyini took his interception back 75 yards for a touchdown. The visiting Privateers turned the ball over five times in the game.
SUNY-Maritime (4-1, 1-1), was led by quarterback Thomas Wright who passed for 214 yards, a touchdown, but three interceptions. Receiver Brandon Drumgole had six catches, 101 yards, and a touchdown. Kendal Parker led the defense with 14 tackles. Husson has now won 11 of 13 games all time with SUNY-Maritime.
Husson will be at home again next Saturday when they host rival Castleton for homecoming at 1 p.m.
