With the injury of Gordon Hayward in the season opener at Cleveland, no one expected the Celtics to go on a 13 game winning streak. But with the veteran Al Horford, the rookie Jayson Tatum, and the impressive performances from Kyrie Irving, Marcus Smart, and Jaylen Brown, the Celtics are the hottest team in the NBA. This winning streak; however, has been an endless fight against some tough competition. The Celtics barely squeaked past the Hornets with a 90-87 win on November 10th and won an even closer game against the Raptors with the score of 95-94 on the 12th.
The winning streak has been filled with constant struggles, including Irving missing the entirety of the game against the Raptors and practically the whole game against the Hornets, somehow this Celtics team has persevered through every problem they have faced. When the starters are lacking, somehow magically, the bench pulls through and lights up the floor. Just like how Shane Larkin came off the bench against the Hornets, in the loss of Irving to a facial fracture, and scored 16 points in the 17 minutes he played.
The upcoming week of games looks like this:
11/16 against the defending champions, the Golden State Warriors
11/18 against the Atlanta Hawks
11/20 against the Dallas Mavericks
11/22 against the Miami Heat
11/24 against the Orlando Magic
11/25 against the Indiana Pacers
The Celtics have made history this early in the season. It is easy to tell that this Celtics team is something special. This group of men are dedicated and you can tell they are ready to take some more games and ready to make some more history. Don’t underestimate this team, and keep your eye on them. They are going to do some great things this season, and maybe… just maybe, go all the way. Tune in Thursday night at 8pm on TNT to see the defending champions in action at the TD Garden against the history breaking team, the Celtics.
