Maine hockey picks up consolation win in Ireland Saturday

Tim Doherty scored a goal and had an assist Saturday to lead the University of Maine to a 4-2 non-conference win over RPI in the consolation game of the Friendship Four Tournament in Belfast, Northern Ireland.

Brendan Robbins, Nolan Vesey, and Mitch Fossier also scored for the 5-7 Black Bears. Jeremy Swayman made 18 saves to earn the win. Maine was 0-2 on the powerplay.

Troy Hurst and Jacob Hayhurst scored for the 2-9-3 Engineers. Linden Marshall made 23 saves in the loss. RPI was 1-5 on the powerplay.

Clarkson took home the title with a 4-2 win over Providence later on Saturday afternoon.

Maine returns home for a two game Hockey East set with Vermont next Friday and Saturday at Alfond Arena. Puck drop is 7 p.m. Friday and 5 p.m. Saturday.
