Both the University of Maine mens and womens basketball teams were on the road on Sunday afternoon, and both scored victories.
At Miami Holiday Tournament in Coral Gables, the UMaine women ran past Kennesaw State 75-39 in the consolation game.
Fanny Wadling led the way for Maine (4-2), with 17 points and nine rebounds. Julie Brosseau added 16 points and seven rebounds, while Tanesha Sutton chipped in with 12 points and 12 rebounds. The Bears scored 25 points off 20 Kennesaw turnovers, and built a 21 point halftime lead. Maine only had seven turnovers.
Maine will visit Toledo on Thursday night to face the Rockets at 7 p.m.
On the mens side, Maine had a huge first half and then hung on for their first victory of the season by a score of 78-72 over Quinnipiac in Connecticut.
Maine built a 46-23 halftime lead, before the Bobcats rallied back in the second half.
Vernon Lowndes Jr. led the Bears with 20 points and nine rebounds. Aaron Calixte added 18 points, five rebounds, and four assists as Maine goes to 1-5.
The Bears visit Georgetown on Tuesday night at 8:30 p.m.
