The University of Maine womens ice hockey team continued on what has been a successful season so far, by coming up with a tie and a win on the road this weekend against Union College at Schenectady, New York.
Friday night Maine was able to come up with a 3-3 tie against the Dutchwomen. The Bears took a 2-0 first period lead, before Union scored the next three goals to take a 3-2 third period lead. Tereza Vanisova scored with 1:05 left to salvage a tie, as neither team could score in the extra session. Vanisova had two goals, while Vendula Pribylova had the other Maine goal. Carly Jackson made 28 saves in the Black Bear net, while Coco Francis stopped 33 shots for Union.
Saturday, Maine was able to come up with a 2-1 win. Catherine Tufts scored the winning goal with just over three minutes left. Daria Tereshkina had the other Black Bear marker. Jackson made 18 saves in the Maine net to pick up the win. Francis made 39 stops on 41 Maine shots in the Union goal.
Maine is now 10-6-2 overall and will host Vermont at Alfond Arena next Saturday and Sunday. Puck drop Saturday is 12 noon, while Sunday is a 2 p.m. start.
