The Husson Eagles mens and womens basketball teams opened up conference play Tuesday night against Thomas at Newman Gym in Bangor, and it was a sweep for the home teams.
In the womens contest, the host Eagles outscored the Terriers 38-19 in second half to break open a close game and close out a 71-47 win. It was the first victory of the season for Husson, in their third game.
Kenzie Worcester led the way for Husson with 23 points, eight rebounds, three assists, and two steals as the Eagles improved to 1-2, 1-0 NAC. Sarah Bragg added 16 points and 12 rebounds. Amira Jones led Thomas (1-4, 0-1) with 14 points and five rebounds. The Terriers committed 28 turnovers in the game.
Husson will host Maine Maritime Academy Saturday at 1 p.m.
On the mens side, Husson stayed unbeaten so far this season with a 74-59 win over Thomas.
Justin Martin led the way for Husson with 17 points, four rebounds, three steals, and three blocked shots. Raheem Anderson added 16 points, five rebounds, and five assists. DJ Bussey also chipped in 14 points, as Husson goes to 3-0, 1-0 NAC. John Morgan had 16 points and eight rebounds for Thomas (1-3, 0-1). Thomas had 25 turnovers in the game, compared to just nine for Husson. The Eagles outscored the Terriers 18-5 in points off turnovers.
Husson will host Maine Maritime Academy Saturday at 3 p.m.
