Celts, Bruins sweep Saturday matinees

Both the Boston Celtics and Boston Bruins continued their hot play with Saturday afternoon wins.

At Philadelphia, the Bruins won for the sixth time in seven games by blanking the Flyers 3-0.

Ryan Spooner opened the scoring, and Brad Marchand and David Pastrnak added a goal and an assist to lead the 12-8-4 Bruins. Tuuka Rask made 28 saves for the shutout win. Brian Elliott stopped 24 of 27 shots for the 8-11-7 Flyers.

Boston travels to Nashville to battle the Predators Monday night at 8 p.m.

 

At TD Garden in Boston, the Celtics became the first team to 20 wins this season by holding off the pesky Phoenix Suns 116-111.

Kyrie Irving had 19 points and five assists to lead the 20-4 Celtics. Jaylen Brown and Marcus Morris had 17 points a piece, while Jayson Tatum added 15, and Al Horford chipped in 14 points and 11 assists.

Devin Booker led the 8-16 Suns with a game high 38 points, four rebounds, and five assists.

Boston will host Milwaukee Monday night at 7:30 p.m.
