Brooke Stacey scored with just 4:11 left in regulation Sunday, to help the University of Maine womens ice hockey team to a 2-2 Hockey East tie with the Vermont Catamounts.
Vermont had taken leads of 1-0 and 2-1, before the Bears answered back both times. Kourtney Menches made it 1-0 Catamounts in the first, before Tereza Vanisova answered back 2:26 later. Vermont took the lead at the 9:24 mark of the third on a goal by Taylor Willard, before Stacey got the equalizer.
Maine goalie Carly Jackson made 15 saves for the Black Bears, who go to 11-6-3, 5-3-2 Hockey East. Sydney Scobee made 37 saves for the 5-11-3, 3-7-2 Vermont Catamounts. Vermont was 0-3 on the powerplay, while Maine was 0-2.
Maine will play Vermont again next Saturday at 2 p.m. in Burlington, Vermont. That game will be the last of calendar year 2017 for the Black Bears.
