The Foxcroft Academy girls basketball team will be in rebuilding mode after reaching the class B regional final last season.
“We graduated seven seniors of which four were starters and the others had lots of time off the bench,”Foxcroft coach Blake Smith said. “The only returning senior is Avery Nelson. Avery gave us good minutes off the bench as a junior. She will be leaned on for post play and rebounding this year.”
Kiara Prescott is the only other senior on the roster. Makenzie Beaudry and Cailin Seavey are the juniors. Beaudry is the only returning starter.
“Kiara (Prescott) has great abilities as a defensive stopper and always wants the tough assignments,”Smith said. “She (Beaudry) is a 5’10” post player that is very athletic and was an honorable mention for All-Conference in the Big East last year. Cailin (Seavey) gave us good minutes of the bench a year ago. She will be asked to fill some other roles for us this year but we feel she is very capable of making a big impact.”
Also on the roster are the following players- Ashley Simko (junior), Cassidy Marsh, Olivia Wesley, Jemyni True, Jenna Anderson, and Natalie Robinson (sophomores), and Ainsley Ade (freshman).
The Ponies will have nine games with teams picked in the top five in class B. Eastern Maine Sports has Hermon, John Bapst, and Winslow as the top three teams in the preseason class B north predictions. The Ponies play each of those teams twice. They also have one game with Presque Isle and two with MDI.
“Our schedule is very tough this year with Hermon, John Bapst, and Winslow being early favorites that we have to play twice,”Smith said. “We hope to steadily improve and be a presence in February.”
The Ponies open the season at John Bapst, followed by a trip to Bar Harbor for a clash with MDI. The home opener will be against class B favorite Hermon on December 20th. That game can be heard live on Eastern Maine Sports.
