After a much challenging non-conference schedule, the University of Maine mens and womens basketball teams swing into America East play this week.
The Maine men at 3-12, begin their conference schedule on the road with trips to Stony Brook Wednesday night at 7, and Binghamton 1 p.m. Saturday afternoon. Maine plays their home conference opener next Wednesday night against UMBC also at 7 p.m.
Maine has lost four in a row since a 104-51 win over UMaine-Machias back on December 10. The Bears are being led by Aaron Calixte and Ilker Er, who are averaging 14.8 and 9.0 points per game respectively.
The Maine womens team comes into the beginning of conference play at 7-6 overall. The Bears played a grueling non-conference schedule that included trips to Ohio State, Mississippi State, and Duke, who are all currently in the top 10 in the country.
Maine finished off the non-conference schedule with an impressive 61-40 win at ACC opponent Boston College last Thursday night.
Maine will host Stony Brook at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Cross Insurance Center, and Binghamton at 1 p.m. Saturday. The Bears head out on the road for the first time in America East next Wednesday morning in Maryland against UMBC at 11 a.m. Stony Brook and Binghamton, the first two America East opponents for Maine, have started out their seasons at 8-5 and 8-4 in their non-league contests.
The Black Bears have been led by Blanca Millan and Julie Brosseau, who are averaging 16.9 and 11.7 points per game respectively.
