Both the Maine mens and womens ice hockey teams extended their win streaks Saturday in Boston against the Terriers of Boston University.
In the mens contest Saturday night, Freshman goalie Jeremy Swayman returned from the World Juniors Tournament to record 31 saves as Maine shutout Boston University 3-0 at Agannis Arena in Boston.
Nolan Vesey, Ryan Smith, and Brendan Robbins each scored goals to help extend the Maine unbeaten streak to eight games (7-0-1). Maine overall is 11-7-1, 5-4-1 in Hockey East. The Bears also improved to 6-1-0 on the road this season. Boston University falls to 8-11-1, 6-7-1.
Maine faces Brown in Providence, Rhode Island Monday night at 7 p.m.
Earlier at Agganis in the womens game, Maine scored three goals in the first period en route to a 4-1 win over BU.
Catherine Tufts, Tereza Vanisova, Cailey Hutchinson, and Lydia Murray all scored for the Black Bears. Vendula Pribylova had two assists. Maine is now 13-6-3 overall and 7-3-2 in Hockey East play. The unbeaten streak reaches seven for the Bears at 5-0-2.
Carly Jackson made 22 saves in net for the win. Desiray De Sousa scored the lone goal for Boston University, who falls to 7-11-4, 3-8-3. The two teams finish off the series Sunday with faceoff at 3 p.m.
