Big second quarter sends Central girls basketball to ninth win

CORINTH– The Central Red Devils scored 26 points in the second quarter and rolled to a 63-34 Girls basketball victory over Mattanawcook on Wednesday night.

Central jumped out to a 17-7 lead after the first quarter. The Red Devils had nine different players that scored, including seven players that had at least one basket in the first eight minutes.

Sydney Allen scored a game high 23 points, including 12 in the second quarter for the Red Devils. Madi Speed came off the bench to put in 14 points. The Central bench scored 22 points and pulled down 14 rebounds.

Emilee Cohen put in eight points, while Alyse Campbell, Abi Allen, and  Emily Smith put in four points each. Campbell also had 10 rebounds and three assists. Sydney Allen added five assists and three steals. Cassidy Burns, Ali Shaw, and Rachel Smith added two points each. Burns had five steals and two assists. Central (9-1) is scheduled to play at Sumner on Saturday.

Katie Tolman scored 12 points to lead the Lynx. Natalie Tilton added eight points each, while Emily Tolman had six points, Kim Voisine chipped in with five points, Tressa Libby and Audrey Tash put in two and one points respectively. Mattanawcook (3-6) will host Dexter on Friday.
