LINCOLN– Piscataquis Community High School (PCHS) outscored Mattanawcook 15-5 in the third quarter and held on for a 45-29 girls basketball win on Monday afternoon.
PCHS jumped out to a 3-0 lead, the Lynx scored the next six points and held an 8-7 lead at the end of the first quarter. Erin Speed (6) and Alivia Hunt (4) combined for all the Pirates points in the second quarter as they held a 17-14 halftime lead.
The PCHS defense held the Lynx to one field goal in the third quarter. The Pirates outscored the Lynx 13-10 in the fourth quarter.
Hunt led the way for the Pirates with 16 points, 10 rebounds, three steals, and two assists. Speed filled up the stat sheet with 12 points, eight steals, seven rebounds, and two assists. Olivia Riitano put in seven points, including four in the third quarter. Meagan Lemieux came off the bench to score six points and grab five rebounds. Lexi Rowell and Bailey Lemieux chipped in with two points each. PCHS (9-2) will travel to Greenville on Thursday.
Natalie Tilton and Kim Voisine scored nine points each for the Lynx. Tilton also pulled down eight rebounds. Katie Tolman scored five points, Emily Tolman added three points, while Katey Libby came off the bench to record two points and seven rebounds. Tressa Libby made one free throw. Mattanawcook (3-8) will host Stearns in Wednesday night.
