LINCOLN– In a close game, it comes down to the little things. Those little things helped the Piscataquis Community High School (PCHS) boys basketball team earn a 61-57 heal point worthy win over Mattanawcook on Monday night.
In a game that went back and forth throughout, the Pirates went 11-14 from the free throw line, including 7-8 in the fourth quarter. Damyan True scored eight of his 21 points in the fourth quarter. He went 4-4 from the free throw line and had two offensive rebounds in the final eight minutes.
The game stayed within five points throughout, with the score tied at 30 going to the half, thanks to a Caleb Willis three pointer to beat the end of the second quarter buzzer.
Bryce Gilbert scored 10 of his game high 22 points in the first quarter. Gilbert also dished out seven assists. The Pirates dynamic scorer had to work for every point and assist thanks to stifling defense from Lynx guard Alex Brown.
True pulled down 11 rebounds and went 7-8 from the free throw line. Cameron Kane scored eight points, including two 3-pointers in the second half. Eben Cooley added four points, while Willis and Wayne Haley chipped in with three points each. PCHS (6-2) is scheduled to travel to Lee on Wednesday.
Brown and Logan Thompson scored 14 points each to lead the Lynx. Thompson connected on four 3-pointers. Brown filled up the stat sheet with eight assists, six rebounds, and four steals. Corbett Arnold added 13 points, including seven in the fourth quarter. Cayden Spencer-Thompson put in 12 points, while Jackson Weatherbee chipped in with four points. Mattanawcook (7-3) is scheduled to travel to Calais on Saturday.
