DEXTER— Piscataquis Community High School (PCHS) went on a 14-0 run that started in the second quarter and held on for a 54-52 win over Dexter on Monday night at Ed Guiski Gymnasium.
Dexter held a 11-10 lead after the first quarter. The Tigers started the second quarter on an 8-2 run. PCHS scored the final 12 points of the quarter to take a 24-18 halftime lead.
The Pirates scored the first two points of the third quarter. Jacob Bickford nailed a three pointer to break up run and cut the deficit to 26-21. The Tigers outscored PCHS 17-16 in the third quarter.
Bryce Gilbert and Damyan True combined for 37 points and 24 rebounds for the Pirates. The duo combined to go 6-9 from the free throw line in the fourth quarter. Bickford made 3 three pointers in the final minutes to keep the Tigers within striking distance. PCHS out-rebounded Dexter 33-18.
Bickford scored 14 points to lead the Tigers. Nathan Richards recorded 10 points and four assists, Trevor Richards, Brett Kusnierz, and Matt Richards put in eight points each. Matt Hanscome and Cameron Paige chipped in with two points each. Dexter (8-4) will host Mattanawcook on Thursday night.
Gilbert recorded 24 points, eight rebounds, eight assists, and six steals to power the Pirates attack. True added 13 points, 16 rebounds, three assists, and two steals. Adam Bagley added eight points and four rebounds. Cam Kane scored seven points, while Eben Cooley chipped in with two. PCHS (8-3) will host Penquis on Thursday night.
