GUILFORD- It was the fifth annual Aliza Jean Family Cancer Foundation game at Piscataquis Community Secondary School on Friday night. Dexter turned up the defense and defeated PCHS 25-13 in a class C girls basketball clash. The most important number of the night was $4690.30. That was the amount that will go to provide support for Maine families with children fighting cancer.
As for the game, Dexter jumped out to a 6-0 lead and the Pirates never got closer than four the rest of the way. The Tigers went on another 6-0 run that extended into the second quarter and made the score 12-2.
PCHS out rebounded Dexter in the first half. Avery Herrick and Becca Batron dominated inside in the second half as the Tigers out rebounded the Pirates 31-20 for the game.
Herrick had a double-double, recording 10 points and 11 rebounds. She also had two assists and two steals. Peyton Grant added seven points and three steals. Batron pulled down 14 rebounds, while scoring four points. Cheyenne Beem and Kaylee Deering chipped in with two points each. Beem also had three rebounds and two assists. Dexter (12-1) will host Central (12-1) on Tuesday. Eastern Maine Sports will have live audio starting at 6:55 PM.
Erin Speed recorded eight points, four rebounds, two assists, and two steals for the Pirates. Alivia Hunt added three points, four rebounds, and four steals. Bailey Lemieux chipped in with two points and six rebounds. PCHS (10-4) will host Valley on Monday. WHOU will have live video stream of the game at 5:30 PM.
