Cedric Lacroix scored shorthanded with just over five minutes left Friday night, to lead the Maine Black Bears to a 3-2 Hockey East men’s hockey win over UMass at the Mullens Center in Amherst, Massachusetts.
Eduards Tralmaks scored his ninth of the year to give Maine a 1-0 first period lead. UMass took the lead in the first when Austin Plevy scored on the powerplay, and then Griff Jeszka scored even strength to make it 2-1.
Maine got their own powerplay goal when Rob Michel at 13:46 of the second to make it 2-2. Both teams were 1-6 on the powerplay. Jeremy Swayman made 28 saves in the net in the Black Bear win, while Ryan Wischow made 21 saves for UMass in the loss. Maine improves to 13-9-4, 7-6-3 in Hockey East, while UMass falls to 11-13-1, 5-9-1 respectively.
The two teams will play again tomorrow night in Amherst at 7 p.m.
