The Maine Black Bears took a 20 point halftime lead, and led by as many as 37 points Sunday afternoon on their way to a 69-36 America East womens basketball win over the UMBC Retrievers at the Cross Insurance Center in Bangor.
Maine never trailed and shot 39 percent from the floor, including 14-33 (42%) from three point range in winning their fourth straight conference game, to improve to 13-8 overall and 6-2 in America East. UMBC was held to just 29% shooting in their lowest point total of the year. Maine also had the advantage in turnovers 24-8, in which they outscored UMBC 31-5 in points off turnovers.
Blanca Millan, Tanesha Sutton, and Julie Brosseau all had 14 points a piece for Maine. Sutton added nine rebounds and five assists, while Millan added four assists and four steals. Fanny Wadling added eight points, and Dor Saar chipped in six. Maine is now in sole possession of second place in America East.
Allison McGrath had nine points and five rebounds for UMBC (2-19, 1-7), while Janee’a Summer had eight points and four rebounds.
Maine will travel to UMass-Lowell for a matchup with the Riverhawks on Wednesday morning at 11 a.m.
