EAST CORINTH–It was senior night for the Central Red Devils girls basketball team on Monday night. Sydney Allen turned in a performance like so many others in her stellar four years. Allen recorded 25 points, eight rebounds, eight assists, and seven steals in a 65-49 Red Devils victory over Penquis.
Penquis held an early lead until the Red Devils went on an 8-0 first quarter run. Emilee Cohen came off the bench to put in six first quarter points to help Central hold an 18-12 lead after the first eight minutes.
Central had seven different players that scored in the first half as they held a 35-22 lead. Rachel Smith and Allen combined for 11 points in the third quarter as the Red Devils maintained a 13 (48-35) point lead. Allen put in nine points in the fourth quarter.
Sydney Fowles scored 15 points and pulled down 11 rebounds to lead the Patriots. Megan Valvo recorded 11 points, six rebounds, and three assists. Camryn Rolfe put in eight points, while Katelyn Bolstridge had seven points and seven rebounds. Lexi Goddard and Lauren Bolstridge scored six and two points respectively. Penquis (7-10) will finish their regular season when they host Schenck, currently scheduled for Wednesday.
Sydney wasn’t the only Allen to fill up the stat sheet. Abi Allen recorded 10 points, four rebounds, four assists, and four steals. Rachel Smith added five points, Sidney Potvin scored four points. Ali Shaw, Alyse Campbell, Madi Speed, Lexi Reardon, and Emily Smith chipped in with two points each, while Cassidy Burns put in one free throw. Central (15-2) recorded 19 assists on 24 field goals. The Red Devils will end the regular season at Searsport.
Sydney Allen moved ahead of Bekah Campbell on the all time Central high school girls basketball scoring list. Allen is now fourth with 1103 points. Jenny Rollins is the all time leader with 1568 points. Brianna Skolfield is second at 1162, while Hannah Pray is 39 ahead of Allen at 1142.
