BANGOR– Deer Isle-Stonington went on a 15-0 run in the second half and rolled to a win over Ashland in a class D girls basketball quarterfinal game played Saturday night at the Cross Insurance Center.
The Mariners scored the first basket of the game and never trailed. They held a 9-5 lead after the first quarter. The lead was expanded to 15-7 in the second quarter.
Ashland cut the deficit to 17-14 in the third quarter. That is when the Mariners started their run that was highlighted by a Lily Gray three pointer that put the advantage in double figures.
Jamie Poulin led the Hornets with 11 points and five rebounds. Ashland finishes the season with a 9-10 record.
Gray and Kaylee Morey scored nine points each to lead the Mariners. Katie Hutchinson scored seven points and grabbed 10 rebounds. Deer Isle-Stonington (17-0) will play a semifinal game on Thursday afternoon against Schenck or Woodland.
