BANGOR– Drew Hayward and Justin Worden combined for 17 points in the fourth quarter to lift the Woodland Dragons to a 53-45 win over Bangor Christian in a Maine Principals’ Association class D boys basketball quarterfinal game on Monday night at the Cross Insurance Center.
With Hayward and Worden in first half foul trouble the top seeded Dragons played to a 15-15 score with the eighth seeded Patriots.
Bangor Christian (6-14) held the lead in the second half until the Dragons went on a 10-2 run that extended into the fourth quarter to make the score 31-26. Worden and Hayward helped put the game away by going 7-10 from the free throw line in the final minutes.
Dean Grass shined in his final career game for the Patriots. The senior scored 24 points, including going over the 1000 career point mark with 1:34 remaining in the fourth quarter. Grass also had four assists and three steals. Austin Keib scored nine points and pulled down 13 rebounds for Bangor Christian.
Hayward scored 16 points and dished our three assists to lead the Dragons. Worden recorded 15 points, three rebounds, and three steals. Sabre Phelps added 11 points and five rebounds. Woodland (16-3) will take on Schenck in a semifinal game on Thursday night at 8:30 PM.
