BANGOR, Me- The second seeded Jonesport-Beals Royals held off a scrappy effort from 10th seeded Southern Aroostook to earn a 64-55 win in a Class D boys quarterfinal Monday morning at the Cross Insurance Center.
The Royals jumped out to a 22-12 first quarter lead, their largest of the game, and held a 22-15 lead at end of first quarter.
The Warriors ran off an 8-0 run to cut the lead to 26-25 in the second quarter, before the Royals answered with their own 8-0 spurt to take a 34-25 lead and 38-32 at halftime.
Once again the Warriors rallied to within 45-43, when senior Jakob Malone buried a three pointer midway through the third quarter. That is as close as SA would get though, as the Royals eventually pushed it back to nine in the fourth quarter, and won by that same nine point margin.
