BANGOR– Natalie Rickards scored 18 points and grabbed seven rebounds to lead Katahdin to a 23-21 victory over Shead in a Maine Principals’ Association class D girls quarterfinal game played Monday afternoon at the Cross Insurance Center.
The Cougars held a 13-2 halftime lead behind 10 points from Rickards. Katahdin put in 10 points in the third quarter, eight from.Rickards. They had a 23-14 advantage going into the final quarter
Cassidy Wilder made two free throws with 1:36 remaining to cut the deficit to 23-21. The Cougars held on for the win despite getting out rebounded 33-20 and not scoring in the final quarter.
Katahdin (11-8) will play Southern Aroostook or Jonesport-Beals in a semifinal game on Thursday afternoon. Wilder led the Tigerettes with 11 points, Justine Cheney scored six points and grabbed eight rebounds. Shead finishes the season with a 10-9 record.
