BANGOR, Me- Kassidy Mathers and Makaelyn Porter each scored 16 points Monday afternoon, to lead the top seeded Southern Aroostook Warriors past Jonesport-Beals 71-39 in a Class D girls quarterfinal at the Cross Insurance Center.
Jonesport-Beals (9-11), was able to stay close early as a basket by Alexsis Sprowl cut the Warrior lead to 12-9 in the first. The Warriors ran off an 11-2 run to extend the lead to 23-11 early in the second. The Royalettes made an 8-0 run though to cut the lead back to 25-21. The Warriors ended the first half scoring 13 of the final 16 points, and led 38-24 at the half.
In the third quarter the Warriors were able to get the lead up to 22, and the final margin of 32 was their largest of the afternoon.
Mathers had five rebounds and three steals, and Porter had five rebounds to go along with their game high in points. Freshman Kacy Daggett added 14 points and five rebounds, and Sydney Brewer chipped in 13 points and five rebounds as well as the Warriors improve to 17-2 and will face Katahdin in the semifinals Thursday afternoon.
The Royalettes were led by Kaylee Ireland who finished with 13 points. Sprowl finished with 11 points and seven rebounds. Reanna Smith also chipped in with seven.
