BANGOR- Derek Collin scored 21 points to lead a balanced Mount Desert Island (MDI) attack in a 72-60 win over Presque Isle in a Maine Principals’ Association class B boys basketball semifinal game played Wednesday night at the Cross Insurance Center.
MDI outscored the Wildcats 21-11 in the second quarter after playing to a 15-15 first quarter. Griffin Guerrette kept Presque Isle within striking distance with 19 of his game high 30 points in the first half, including 12 in the first quarter.
Collin scored eight of his team high points in the second quarter for the Trojans. MDI secured the victory by shooting 11-16 from the free throw line in the fourth quarter. Andrew Phelps shot 6-7 from the free throw line, including 5-6 in the final eight minutes.
Jonah Hudson added 11 points for the Wildcats. Presque Isle finishes the season with a 14-6 record.
MDI out rebounded Presque Isle 32-20. Collin pulled down 10 rebounds to go along with his 21 points. Phelps put in 13 points, while James McConomy had 11 points, Colby Lee also finished in double figures with 10. MDI (17-3) will play Hermon or Winslow in the regional final on Saturday afternoon at 3:45 PM.
