BANGOR– The Southern Aroostook Warriors girls basketball team scored 25 points in the first quarter and rolled to a 73-41 win over Katahdin in a Maine Principals’ Association class D semifinal game on Saturday afternoon at the Cross Insurance Center.
Katahdin scored the first basket of the game. That was the last lead of the game for the Cougars. The Warriors scored the next seven points and went on another 6-0 run later in the quarter. They held a 13 point lead after the first eight minutes.
Southern Aroostook outscored the Cougars 15-5 in the second quarter to take a comfortable 40-17 halftime lead.
Haley Landry led the Cougars with 16 points and five rebounds. Madison Landry added nine points. Natalie Rickard made one 3-pointer. Katahdin finishes the season with a record of 11-9.
Makaelyn Porter led a balance Warriors attack with 16 points, three assists, and three steals. Kassidy Mathers filled up the stat sheet with 14 points, 11 rebounds, three assists, and three steals. Kylie Vining added 13 points, four assists, and four steals. Sydney Brewer also finished in double figures with 12 points. Southern Aroostook (18-2) will take on Woodland in the regional final game on Saturday morning at 9:05 AM.
