Blanca Millan scored a game high 22 points, and Tanesha Sutton recorded a double double as the Maine Black Bears took down the Vermont Catamounts 79-47 in America East womens basketball action at Patrick Gym in Burlington, Vermont Thursday night.
Maine shot a sizzling 56 percent from the floor in the first half, compared to just 30 percent for the home Catamounts to build a 22 point halftime lead.
Millan added six rebounds to go along with her point total, while Sutton had 17 points and 11 rebounds. Julie Brosseau added nine points, four rebounds, and three assists, while freshman guard Dor Saar chipped in eight points. The Bears led by as many as 32 in improving to 19-9, 12-3 America East.
Hanna Crymble had 15 points to lead Vermont (8-20, 5-10). Kristina White chipped in 10.
Coupled with Albanys comeback win at Binghamton Thursday night, the Black Bears and Great Danes are still in a tie for first place in America East. The two teams meet Sunday in the regular season finale at 1 p.m. at the Cross Insurance Center to decide the #1 seed for the upcoming conference tournament in Portland, and the America East regular season champion.
