Charlie McAvoy scored 1:08 into overtime Tuesday night and also had an assist to lead the Boston Bruins to a 4-3 come from behind win over the Carolina Hurricanes at TD Garden.
Hurricanes winger Brook McGinn and Bruins newcomer Rick Nash swapped first period goals to make it 1-1. Carolina then got goals from Teuvo Teravainen and Sebastian Aho to make it 3-1, before Riley Nash scored with three seconds left in the first to cut it to 3-2.
Another Bruins newcomer Tommy Wingels, who also had an assist, scored to tie it in the second. McAvoys goal was his 7th of the season and went glove side on Carolina goalie Scott Darling on a two on one breakout. Darling made 28 saves in the loss, while Tuuka Rask made 29 for the win in the Bruins net. Carolina was 2-3 on the powerplay, Boston was 0-2.
Boston now 38-15-8, will next play Thursday night at 7 when they host Pittsburgh. Carolina falls to 27-25-11.
