One day ahead of a quarterfinal game against UMBC in the America East basketball tournament, the University of Maine announced Friday that they have signed Amy Vachon to a four year contract extension to be the coach of the women’s program.
The extension was effective March 1st. Vachon took over 1/6/17 when Richard Barron took an extended medical leave. Vachon was the interm head coach this season where she led the Bears to a 20-9 record and a 13-3 mark in the conference, culminating with the America East regular season title.
Vachons coaching salary will be $120,000 annually with a $5,000 increase at the start of the second season.
Maine will face UMBC at noon Saturday in the quarterfinal of the America East tournament at Cross Insurance Arena in Portland. With two wins this weekend, Maine would host the championship game in Bangor on Friday March 9 at 4 p.m. for a chance at an NCAA tournament appearance.
