Marchand ‘trick finishes off wild Bruins win

Brad Marchand buried a rebound of a Torey Krug shot past a sprawling Jimmy Howard 34 seconds into overtimeTuesday night, leading the Boston Bruins to a 6-5 win over the Detroit Red Wings at TD Garden in Boston.

Marchand had a hat trick with three goals and also two assists in a game that went back and forth. The Bruins twice blew a two goal lead. Boston made it 2-0 in the first 52 seconds of the game on goals from Krug and Jake Debrusk. Detroit tied it on goals from Frans Neilsen and Mike Green, before Krug scored to give the Bruins back a 3-2 lead after one period.

The Bruins pushed it to 4-2 on Marchands first goal in the second, then after Detroit answered on a marker by Anthony Mantha, Marchand got another one to make it 5-3. Mantha scored again though to cut it to 5-4 after two, before Martin Frk evened up the game almost halfway through the third period at 5-5. Krug finished with a pair of goals and a pair of assists, while Davis Pastrnak added three assists as well. Mantha had two goals and two assists for the 26-29-11 Red Wings.

Anton Khudobin made 30 saves in net for the Bruins, who improve to 41-15-8. Jared Coreau made 12 saves in his start for Detroit, before being pulled in the second period for Howard. Howard made 19 saves. Boston hosts Philadelphia Thursday night at 7 p.m.
