University of Maine interim athletic director Jim Settele announced Thursday that Maine men’s hockey head coach Red Gendron has been given a two year contract extension.
Gendron led Maine to an 18-16-4 record this past season. Maine was bounced from the Hockey East playoffs in the quarterfinals in two games by Providence. The terms of the new contract remain unchanged from the current one, and runs through June 30, 2021.
Gendron began his coaching career under the legendary Shawn Walsh in 1990, and was an assistant when Maine won their first national title in 1993. Gendron initially signed a four year contract as head coach running through the 2016-17 season, before a two year extension was given in February 2016.
