Colby falls short in Frozen Four semifinal

The Saint Norbert College Green Knights jumped to a 3-0 first period lead Friday night, then held off the Colby White Mules 4-3 at Herb Brooks Arena in Lake Placid, New York in a semifinal game of the NCAA Division III men’s ice hockey Frozen Four.

Roman Uchyn scored 1:28 into the first, followed up by a Dominick Sacco goal 1:07 later to make it 2-0. Tanner Froese made it 3-0 at 11:33. St Norbert had 24 first period shots on goal.

J.P. Schuhlen made it 3-1 at 15:04 of the second, and Cam McDonald scored again for Colby just 2:52 later and all of a sudden it was a 3-2 game. Froese though scored unassisted shorthanded at 19:25 to regain a two goal lead for the Green Knights at 4-2.

Justin Grillo scored at 14:08 of the third for Colby to once again make it a one goal game. The White Mules pulled goalie Sean Lawrence late in the final period, but was unable to get the equalizer.

Colby ends their season at 17-11-2. Lawrence made 44 saves on the night. Saint Norbert, now 26-4-1, advances to the national championship game Saturday against Salve Regina, and goalie TJ Black made 39 saves.
