Maine baseball snaps 10 game losing streak, splits at Hartford

The Maine baseball was in West Hartford, Connecticut again Saturday for an America East doubleheader with the Hartford Hawks.

A pitchers duel in game one went to Hartford by a final score of 1-0.

Nick Silva pitched well for the Bears, surrendering just a solo homerun to Bryce Walker for the only run and the difference in the ball game. Silva (1-3) went 7.2 innings allowing just a run on five hits and three strikeouts. Nicholas Dombroski (1-0) went 8.0 innings to get the win, while Seth Pinkerton nailed down his second save. Christopher Bec had two hits for Maine.

The Bears bounced back in game two and ended a 10 game losing streak with a dominant 6-1 win, also notching their first conference win.

Bec had three hits and an RBI, as five other Black Bears also drove in runs. Caleb Kerbs, Brandon Vicens, and Kevin Doody all had two hits a piece.

John Arel (1-0) pitched 6.0 innings in relief for the win, allowing no runs on four hits and four strikeouts. Nathan Florence (0-4) took the loss for Hartford allowing four runs and nine hits in 5.1 innings.

Maine is now 5-19, 1-2 America East. Hartford is 4-15, 3-3. Maine opens up home conference play next weekend with a three game series against Albany, beginning with a doubleheader at noontime Saturday at Mahaney Diamond.
