The Boston Celtics and Boston Bruins are both within striking distance of first place in their respective divisions and conferences as the regular season winds down.
The Celtics (52-23), are currently sitting three games behind Atlantic Division and Eastern Conference leading Toronto (55-20). The Raptors and Celtics matchup head to head at TD Garden Saturday night. They also meet once more at Toronto next Wednesday night. Both teams have seven games remaining. Toronto’s road schedule includes the Celtics, Cavaliers, Pistons, and the Heat. Home games left will be the Celtics, Pacers, and the Magic. Boston’s home schedule includes the Raptors, Bulls, Hawks and the Nets. The road schedule will be against the Bucks, Raptors, and the Wizards. Boston seems to be plugged into the Eastern Conference number two seed if they don’t overtake Toronto for first, as they are 6.5 games ahead of the third place Cleveland Cavaliers.
The Boston Bruins have had a remarkable season and are currently a single point behind the Tampa Bay Lightning for first place in Atlantic Division and Eastern Conference. Boston had overtaken Tampa for first with a win over Lightning 4-2 Thursday night at TD Garden, but Tampa took down the NY Rangers Friday night 7-3 to take back the lead. The two teams have one more head to head Tuesday night at Tampa. Boston is 48-17-11 (107 points), while Tampa is 52-22-4 (108 points). The Bruins also look to be locked into a number two seed in Eastern Conference if they don’t finish first, as they are six points ahead of third place Toronto with six games left. Tampa Bay has one road game left last day of regular season at the Hurricanes. They host the Predators, Bruins, and the Sabres. While the Lightning only have four games left, the Bruins have six. Boston has three home tilts left with the Panthers coming in twice, and the Senators. Boston also has road contests at the Flyers, Lightning, and the Panthers.
It looks to be an extremely exciting spring and hopefully into the summer for three of four Boston professional teams, as the Red Sox try to defend their A.L. East title, and the Bruins and Celtics try to march deep into their respective league playoffs and bring a title or two to Beantown. Eastern Maine Sports will as always have you covered with recaps throughout the playoffs and all your Sox coverage too.
