Maine baseball crushes Albany in series finale, Softball sweeps at Hartford

Christopher Bec had five hits and four RBI including a pair of homeruns, Nick Silva tossed the ball well on the hill, to help the Maine Black Bears baseball team to a 17-1 win over Albany at Mahaney Diamond in Orono Sunday to complete the weekend America East three game sweep.

Bec also scored four runs, while Danny Casals had three hits, three RBI and also scored four times, while Hernen Sardinas added two hits, three RBI, and scored three as the Black Bears pounded out 18 hits on the day. Maine built an 5-1 lead after four, then exploded for 12 more runs in their final four at bats. Jeremy Pena also contributed to the offensive output with three hits, an RBI, and four runs scored.

Silva (2-3) only allowed four hits, one run, and had eight strikeouts in 6.0 innings. Maine is now 8-19, 4-2 America East. The Bears will host Stony Brook in a three game series next Saturday, with a doubleheader starting at 12 p.m.

 

At West Hartford, Connecticut Maine softball also finished off an America East sweep, with a 6-2 win over the Hartford Hawks.

Maddie Decker and Rachel Carlson each had two RBI, while Annie Kennedy (6-3) picked up her second win in the circle on the weekend by allowing just one earned run, eight hits, with four strikeouts in 4.2 innings.

Maine is now 12-14, 3-0 America East. The Black Bears start a three game series at Albany next Saturday, with a doubleheader starting at 12 p.m.
