Bogaerts red hot as Red Sox start 7-1 for first time since 1920

The Boston Red Sox bats exploded for the first time this season in a 10-3 win over the Tampa Bay Rays at Fenway Park on Saturday afternoon.

Xander Bogaerts had six RBI, including a second inning grand slam. JD Martinez had two RBI, including his first home run in a Red Sox uniform. Rafael Devers also hit a home run.

Rick Porcello pitched 7.1 innings, allowing six hits and three runs. He didn’t issue a walk and retired 17 during the middle innings. The Red Sox have not committed an error through the first eight games.

The Red Sox have started the season 7-1 for the third time in franchise history. They also did it in 1918 and 1920. Eduardo Rodriguez will come off the disabled list and make his first start on Sunday. Marcus Walden will be optioned to triple A Pawtucket.
