Mookie Betts scored five runs and capped a nine run sixth inning with a grand slam in leading the Boston Red Sox to a 14-1 win over the New York Yankees at Fenway Park on Tuesday night.
Andrew Benintendi had a double, triple, and two RBI. Betts went 4-4 and reached with a walk. Hanley Ramirez went 2-2 with a walk and three RBI.
Chris Sale (1-0) pitched six innings, allowing one run on eight hits. He struck out eight and didn’t issue a walk.
The Red Sox have started the season 9-1 for the best start to the season in team history. They have won nine straight since a season opening loss. The Red Sox have not made a defensive error through 10 games. David Price will be on the mound in game two of the series on Wednesday night at 7:10.
