The Boston Bruins had several multiple point scorers on Thursday night, and skated to an easy 5-1 win over the Toronto Maple Leafs in the first game of an opening round best of seven playoff series at a sold out TD Garden.
Brad Marchand opened the scoring on a great setup by Torey Krug on the powerplay 5:28 into the first period to make it 1-0 Bruins. The Leafs tied it 1-1 when Zach Hyman scored on a partial breakaway 16:52 in. From that point, it was all Boston.
David Backes and David Pastrnak scored second period goals, while Sean Kuraly added a highlight reel goal in the third period, and David Krejci added another powerplay marker for good measure to finish off the scoring. Pastrnak added two assists to go along with his goal, while Marchand and Krejci added an assist each for a two point night.
Boston was 3-6 on the powerplay, while Toronto was 0-3. Tuuka Rask made 26 saves in the Bruins win in net, while Frederick Anderson made 35 saves in the Leafs loss.
Game two with also be at TD Garden in Boston Saturday night at 8 p.m., as Boston attempts to take a 2-0 lead in the series before heading to Toronto.
