David Pastrnak had a hat trick and the Boston Bruins jumped out to a 4-0 lead after one period, en route to a convincing 7-3 win over the Toronto Maple Leafs in game two of their NHL first round playoff series at TD Garden in Boston Saturday night.
The Bruins are up 2-0 in the series, as they put the game two win to bed early. Pastrnak, Jake Debrusk, Kevan Miller, and Rick Nash all scored in a 9:34 span of the opening period to chase Maple Leafs starting goalie Frederik Anderson after the third goal. Anderson only made two saves on five shots.
Mitchell Marner and Tyler Bozak scored in the second for Toronto, sandwiched around a David Krejci goal making it 5-2. Pastrnak had two more goals in the third period, and James van Riemsdyk scored the Leafs third goal. Pastrnak added three assists for a six point night. Brad Marchand and Patrice Bergeron had four assists a piece, while Torey Krug added three more. Pastrnak is first Bruins player to have three goals and three assists in a playoff game since Rick Middleton in 1983.
Tuuka Rask stopped 30 shots in net, and Boston also went 2-4 on the powerplay. Curtis McElhinney stopped 19 shots in his relief of Anderson, and Toronto went 1-4 with the extra man. Game three will be Tuesday night in Toronto at 7 pm.
