Red Sox come back to defeat Oakland and improve to 17-2

Mitch Moreland broke open a tie game with a sixth inning grand slam to give the Boston Red Sox a 7-3 win over the Oakland Athletics at Rickey Henderson field on Friday night.

The Red Sox fell behind 3-0 in the first inning. Drew Pomeranz settled down, including striking out the side in the third inning. The bullpen didn’t allow a run in 5.1 innings. Hector Velazquez (3-0) pitched three shutout innings.

The Red Sox are now 17-2 and are on their second eight game winning streak of the season. The Red Sox are the fifth team to start the season 17-2 and first since the 1987 Brewers. They have Chris Sale is on the mound on Saturday night in game two of the series
