Sean Manaea fired a no-hitter to lift the Oakland Athletics to a 3-0 win over the Boston Red Sox at Rickey Henderson field on Saturday night.
It is the first time the Red Sox have had a no hitter thrown against them since Chris Bosio of the Seattle Mariners did it in 1993. It is the 12th no hitter in Athletics history and first since Dallas Braden fired a perfect game against the Rays on May 9, 2010.
Manaea struck out 10 and walked only two against a Red Sox team that came in averaging over 10 hits per game.
Chris Sale (1-1) allowed three runs on six hits and one walk, while striking out 10 in seven innings. The teams will wrap up the series on Sunday afternoon with David Price on the mound for the Red Sox.
