The Maine Mammoths (Portland, Maine) recorded their first ever victory in National Arena League history Saturday night, defeating the Lehigh Valley Steelhawks 45-24 at the PPL Center in Allentown, Pennsylvania, spoiling the Steelhawks home opener.
Maine quarterback Jonathan Bane (Dakota Wesleyan) threw six touchdown passes as the Mammoths improved to 1-2. Lehigh is now 0-2.
Bane threw first half touchdowns to Devin Wilson and Devante Jenkins to give Maine a 12-10 halftime lead. Maine held the lead after three quarters as well at 18-17, before exploding to outscore Lehigh Valley 27-7 in the final quarter. Bane threw four fourth quarter TDs, as Edgar Poe Jr. and Wilson caught a pair each. Niko Sierra also had a fumble recovery for a TD in the third quarter.
After a week off, Maine returns home to Cross Insurance Arena in Portland Saturday, May 5th to host the reigning NAL champion Jacksonville Sharks at 7 pm.
