Xander Bogaerts returned from the disabled list on Friday night and got three hits. It wasn’t enough as the Boston Red Sox fell 4-3 to the Tampa Bay Rays at Fenway Park.
The Red Sox fell behind 4-0 as Drew Pomeranz struggled allowing four runs on six hits and two walks in five innings. Hector Velazquez came in and he kept the Red Sox in the game. Velazquez pitched 3.1 innings of scoreless relief.
Bogaerts raised his average to .405. J.D. Martinez had two hits and two RBI. Mookie Betts had two hits and two runs scored. Game two of the series will be Saturday afternoon with David Price on the mound.
