Former University of Maine offensive lineman Jamil Demby found a new home on Saturday via the NFL draft.
Demby was taken in the sixth round (192nd) by the Los Angeles Rams. He becomes the 17th Black Bear all time to be selected in the NFL draft, and the first since Trevor Bates was selected in the seventh round by the Indianapolis Colts in 2016.
The 6 foot 5, 319 pound Demby will join former UMaine offensive coordinator Liam Cohen in Los Angeles, as Cohen is now an assistant coach with the Rams. Demby played 40 games at offensive lineman with the Black Bears, and is expected to play a guard position at the next level. He is also the first offensive lineman from UMaine to be taken in the draft since Scott Hough was taken by the New Orleans Saints in 1990.
